Batana & Ogirisi Cream (DIY)

🌿 DIY Batana & Ogirisi Cream

Batana oil is well known for repairing damaged hair and deeply moisturizing the skin. Ogirisi (Newbouldia laevis), a traditional African plant, is loved for its soothing and healing benefits. When you put the two together, you get a rich, all-natural cream that works beautifully for both hair and body.

Ingredients (for about 100ml)

Batana oil – 2–3 tbsp (deeply nourishing)

Ogirisi-infused oil or extract – 1 tbsp (calms and restores)

Shea butter – 3 tbsp (moisturizing base)

Cocoa or mango butter – 2 tbsp (adds thickness and creaminess)

Beeswax or emulsifying wax – 1 tbsp (to hold it all together)

Distilled water or aloe vera gel – 4 tbsp (use this only if making a body cream)

Vitamin E oil – ½ tsp (antioxidant + helps it last longer)

Essential oil (optional) – a few drops (lavender, frankincense, or peppermint are nice choices)

🥣 How to Make It

Step 1 – Prepare Ogirisi Oil (if you don’t have it ready):

Dry the leaves and crush them lightly.

Gently heat in a carrier oil (like olive or coconut) for 30–40 minutes.

Strain and keep the infused oil.

Step 2 – Melt the Base:

Place shea butter, cocoa/mango butter, beeswax, and batana oil in a double boiler.

Heat gently until everything melts together.

Step 3 – Decide What You’re Making:

👉 For Body Cream (lighter and quick to absorb):

Take the melted mix off the heat.

Slowly whisk in the distilled water or aloe vera gel until creamy.

Add the Ogirisi oil, Vitamin E, and essential oils. Blend until smooth.

👉 For Hair Cream (richer and more protective):

Skip the water/aloe.

Let the melted mix cool a little.

Stir in Ogirisi oil, Vitamin E, and essential oils.

If you prefer a whipped, fluffy texture, beat with a hand mixer.

Step 4 – Store It:

Spoon your cream into a clean, airtight glass jar.

Storage:

Body cream lasts about 2–3 months (refrigerate if you want it to stay longer).

Hair cream can last up to 6 months since it’s oil-based.

🌟 How to Use

As a Body Cream: Apply to dry areas, scars, or rough patches for soft, healthy skin.

As a Hair Cream: Massage into the scalp, use on dry ends, or apply overnight as a deep treatment for repair and shine.

⚡One recipe, two results: a hydrating body cream or a restorative hair butter. All depending on whether you add water or aloe.
